Sunday is my favourite day of the week....

I can waste the day away in bed, and it feels so good, and I don't feel bad about it. I guess that's what working is all about, putting in your hard work during the week, then taking that chance to just relax, let go, do nothing. I kinda see why my parents like to get away to the cottage on weekends in nice weather now. Get away from the hustle and bustle, the rush of the city, it is really different. I do love the city, and wouldn't leave it for a second, but being able to wake up, without the sounds of cars racing by your window and ambulances rushing around, is something different, being able to just lay in bed with your eyes open looking up at the ceiling doing nothing, and feeling good about doing nothing is something else. Now I know that's not what they do at the cottage exactly..... they wake up at the crack of dawn, go barefooting then come back work then play some more, but its what they love to do, and yea, I guess I can understand now.

Anyways, it is really beautiful out today, snowing nicely, the wind isn't crazy, everything is completely white again. I really do love winter, winter up here is different then city winter, city winter is winds and slush, shovelling your driveway and breaking your back. Here, it's just a "whatever" kind of idea, the snow is here almost all year anyways, you just get used to it, throw the boots on and walk through it.

8 more work days.

Then I shall be back with all you beautiful people, ;).

Losty needs alot of help with spelling, he can't match most signs with words, it's hard but it'll come with time, I am not a miracle worker, and I have no idea how to teach it other then showing him a picture, or the item, spelling it, and giving him the sign for it. That, my dear people, is a long long drawn out process, feels like grade 1.

For all of those who do not have access to my private blog, I will be creating a new public blog for all of you, so when I am back in the city you can still follow my antics when you aren't able to catch me on the phone ;).

So I owe you a song for a couple days, but I am not sure really what to give ya.....

Really, anything from Watchout! There's Ghosts
Is basically amazing.

So as for my lessons, and teaching I think I have introduced approximately 18 signs per hour. (that is me apprx 300 signs in 55.75 hours.) I am not sure if this is good or bad, sharon what do you think hah.

My body awaits the hustle and bustle of the city, see you all soon.

so a actual update for ya.

Not that there's much to update, I am sitting here writing my activity log to date, so that there is less to do when the time comes to finally type it up, and I can see I haven't been very descriptive with what I have been teaching to the family, employees etc. but I hope that it isn't a problem, I have my lessons down that I taught up to (sign amounts).

In the past few days I have gotten to try new food, it was good. I had caribou on thursday and then on friday I had moose. Moose is super yummy, caribou is a rougher taste I guess, but that might have just been because it was in stew and the moose was just with celery in the mix.

I also have my fab new slippers, super comfy and warm no doubt. The last few nights I haven't stayed at the arena, thursday I walked in, looked around and decided to leave, went for a walk then headed to bed. Friday night I vegged out and watched lame tv but it was okay, Air Farce was not so bad, Rick Mercer Report and Dr. Who <--- Weirdest show ever btw, not very good acting or plot line but still....

So... on thursday, I lost my credit card, called and cancelled it, later that evening one of the ladies who was staying in a room in my transit found it and brougth it to me, already cancelled so I cut it up. New card on its way to my house yay.

I really have nothing interesting to say, since I believe I already mentioned about the seals that I saw down on the river. Quite interesting things around here, nature wise.
Anyways, I am off to finish some more work

omg comfy.

These probably have to be the most comfortable thing ever to go on my feet.
Anyways, not much to update on still, just kinda cruisin along, Losty did not show up again this morning, but I was told that he was at the bar last night.... so who knows what kinda trouble he could get in for that...

Nice day you say?

Hair didn't freeze this morning, this is a good sign for the start of the day, well I am hoping haha.
Sitting here listening to TRS I realize that TRS is actually my 2nd favourite band, just for all of you to know haha. Okay, well, yesterday I was invited to a "get together" I guess? On Friday night, I'll go cause there's nothing else to do, it will be nice to go somewhere other then the arena. I have to give an update on Losty to the Interagency up here, and not sure what they really want a update on. I am assuming on how he is coming along understanding the signs and such, which probably of the 160 signs that his mom and family kinda know now, he can understand what 100 of them mean, it's still all needing it put into context for him. He also needs help on his spelling along with his math, so that is something I will ask Alan to work on with him, and I will mention to the Interagency that I have him registered in Adult Ed so he can continue working when I leave. In other news, week 3 is actually today..... I'll be home soon enough I will miss having somewhere to sit and work though, I feel I am much more productive when I am out in the world then if I was to sit at home and try to find a job or do work at home. It's just who I am I guess? I am also much more motivated if I am actually at a job where I am being paid, I kinda guess I am proud that I am giving this all a shot, shows me I haven't totally followed my gene pool. Anyways, enough of that.

I went through my Zune to try something interesting for everyone who reads to go out and attempt to get, this one might be tougher to find then the one yesterday because it is a "rough" or a demo as such. The song is as follows.

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Pen & Paper

I really enjoy this song, so check it out.

Into Week 3!

I have survived so far, I guess. haha. As much as I have to. This is the start of the 3rd week, I figured I should give a little snippet. I spent my birthday sleeping.... a little grocery shopping, and sitting at the arena hah. Same old typical shiz. Nothing really exciting going down, I have decided at the end of each post, I will give you a song of the day.... Sound good? Yes.
I promise I won't be too obscure or anything, it'll be stuff you can easily go out and find on the net. I am just sitting at my desk this morning waiting for my water to come to a boil for my tea. I have also started listening to rando stuff on my Zune, and I think it's creating for weird dreams. Last night I dreamed that today there was cell phone signal and I woke up all excited, checked my cell phone and nuthing!
Ah well.

Can't get everything I want I guess ;)

Actually I lied, this isn't the start of the third week. It's the end of the second, my third starts on Wednesday, big diff I know. haha. I'll be home in......14 days.
Anyone up for making plans let me know.

Um, so back on topic to where I am, hah. Yesterday I was super excited cause the forecast said +4 for Friday with rain, now it says 0 - -1 but I guess I can't complain that is alot better then -11. My hair froze this morning on the way over from my place, the whole 30 second walk..... note to self dry hair before leaving transit. Also met some new people last night at hockey, Ani..... and I forget the guy's name but he said he did figure skating for 10 years and is part of the Inuit Police.
Okay, that's it for now, enough rambling on, I suck at posts in the morning.

I have only about 2 weeks left.... then I shall be home, and we will have a partay.... not really, but then I go to detroit, there shall be a partay there with my friendz. Serial. Tomorrow, I can legally drink all over the world now. Now I am satisified. Lets all go to the states haha. Today it is taking FOREVER to open my email. Sucks, but whatcha gonna do. No session this morning either, 3 hour session this afternoon so that shall be bomb diggity, then we are having a small thing at our place, BURRITOS.

Jersey just got colder....

and by Jersey, I mean Whapmagoostui. haha. Walking up to sharp cold winds outside is something I guess I am used to now, -10 currently with a -15 windchill, so not terribly cold yet. But it seems to be pretty much the consistent tone for what the temperture is going to be. http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/city/pages/qc-105_metric_e.html <--- Enviroment Canada's Forecast for up here, helps cause there is a real(ish) airport here so they need the weather I guess. So my care package came yesterday, (thanks steph) Now I have hot chocolate and a tumbler to keep it warm yum yum. nomnomnom. Yesterday was okay, Losty didn't come in in the morning, so I did some lesson work, and in the afternoon he came in, he also went back to Alan I guess yesterday and ended up grabbing a math book and a calculator. Came back to the centre all excited waving it in my face. haha, cute I guess. He's happy to be learning, I think he actually likes math :. So when I think about it there is only really 2 weeks left. I have no lesson tonight, but I was invited to a birthday party type of thing but I think I might take the chance to work on some extra lessons and such, tomorrow's hours are cut down too, only 3 hours in the afternoon. Next week is going to be packed with lessons, serially. I think I will do the pictionary today with the one group, with signs. haha.

Thursday, November 20, 2008

These words were never easier for me to say.

Anyways, it's getting mucho cold, -11 (-18 windchill) it is outside right now. I am kinda running out of things to do with Losty, there's not much to do in this tiny town, if I was in Toronto I wouldn't have any time to fit anything into the schedule. I guess that's kinda what I have to deal with though, I have cut down on my hours by 3 hours a week with him next week so I can get a chance to work on my lessons, since my lessons start at 2/3pm each day and then I go until dinner time, then start again after, not much time for lessons, means I will probably need to do a little work on Sunday and Saturday to catch up to the pace of the one class. So I am sitting here listening to Mayday Parade, and just bobbing along, early in the morning to be in the office. But ya know, ya do what you do. I decided I am not going to play hockey, they wanted $75 for 3 weeks of renting, and I just thought there's better things I can do with $75 when I get home. One of the girls from the centre here sat down and chatted with me at hockey last night and Donnie? from the youth centre came and chatted too and then their friends followed, so it's not so bad. They are playing Wall-E at the Youth Centre tonight, I guess I will go, it is a TERRIBLY cute movie. <33>

Anyways, I like to ramble ramble hurr, wonder what the new year will have in store for me. Guess I gotta get through this year first ;).

Take care.

The cold of the middle west has taken advantage of my days.

So things are slowing down a bit and I am settling in for now, still figuring out what to do with losty during our hours together seems repetitive, hopefully the signs are coming together for him, I am not a miracle worker ya know. This morning it is frigidly cold outside, like the walk from my place to here ouch. Even with 3 or 4 layers on heh. Ah well, such is life up here it seems, everyone is always bundled up, I asked when their winter usually ends and they have snow into May here hahh, I couldn’t live here, not all year round. Also some man asked me if I wanted to play in the recreational hockey league yesterday as I was leaving and said that I could see someone about renting equipment, so I am gonna check out how much it is to rent the equipment if it’s a lot then pshaw, bun dat. If it’s reasonable then I will rent. Anyways, more work to do so I am off

Nothing exciting....

Still just moving along.... sorry nothing exciting has happened, two more people moved into my house, a psychologist and a physiotherapist.... now I have to keep all my junk in my room since I don't have the house to myself haha. Today(tuesday) I am going to register Losty in Adult Education with Alan and hopefully he will go to that sometimes after I am gone, yesterday was the first session I had with any staff forms and it went pretty well, joked around a bit so it was loosened up, I am thinking of after the first few sessions to get them to play pictionary with signs and they need to sign the sign to get the answer?
haha.
We'll see. Anyways for now, oh yea, they had a hockey game go on yesterday at the arena, finally. So, for now I bid you adieu. Till next time.

theee weekend

So I guess this is weekend #1, it wasn’t so bad, worked Saturday which ended up being a long day, I feel as if I am quite boring while teaching these lessons, and not sure how I can make it that more exciting to learn vocab. I did end up meeting some other people that are interested in coming and learning during our nightly sessions, hopefully they do come. As for the weather, as I promised it got cold again ;) started snowing Saturday afternoon and has kept up since, not a huge amount but it’s still kind of going on. The wind chill is what is going on though, quite cold… Sunday I went over to Alan’s house, Alan is the adult Ed teacher up here in the community, quite nice actually he is. A man named Hop lives with them and is kind of the chef of the community (he is Vietnamese). SO, I got to enjoy an actual meal other then what I make myself, 3 different types of fish for a meal. Pretty good, I did however pick the shrimp out of my soup that he made and gave it to Alan ha-ha. Also I got to watch some actual TV on satellite. Phew that will tide me over for a little while =).
Tried uploading pictures to myspace, was way too slow too. oh well.

P.s. D+C Thanks for the Leather jacket it has been great so far, looks like I will be layering more and more now that its -5 and colder.

Day.... I guess I am at 5 now?

So today, well last night I guess overnight, it warmed up a lot, I believe it also rained over night. So today the snow has all been melting away including all of the ice, now everything is muck, or mud. So it seems that the Cree community part has not been paved yet, so everything is still sand roads. Oh what fun it is…. Not. Man, it’s rough on the feet, my feet have been wet all day, but not much I can do about it, and I live across the street from where I work!! Haha, only Losty’s Mother showed up for the lesson tonight, 45 mins late though. I am still counting from when the lesson was planned to start since really that is what I was scheduled for. Is that wrong? Let me know what you guys think, week days it seems like they are only giving me a hour and a half with the family this week at nights, next week it seems like I will get more time. Losty and I also went over some math today, he’s a bright guy mostly just needs a little guidance and some way of implanting ideas into his head. The whole idea of “going to” or “coming from” doesn’t really exist there yet. I am trying though, its one of my main things so far I am working on with him, that and the difference between the sign for right and wrong, if anyone has any suggestions of ways I can go about using examples to show right and wrong let me know. One of the streets is kinda flooded, just the street down next to my house I guess. It’s going to be getting colder again, and all the water will freeze, oh what fun that will be. Yea, I am kinda just rambling on, and now the green tea is wearing off, so I am off to go rest for a bit then go check out the hockey tonight…. MAYBE they will have a game…. Ugh.

<33 always.

Day 4

So today was a bit more of the same, you’re going to hear that line alott, haha. I worked with Losty and Julian, 10-12 then 1-3, did some lesson type stuff then had a session at 630-830 (this will be the general days, Saturdays I will be doing lots of work with his family. About 4-6 hours work I guess. 1030-12 1-430 I believe? Yep, 6 hours. Ah, hockey isn’t as exciting here as I thought it would be, lots of practices during the week and seems like games may only be on the weekend. Meh. More of Losty’s family will be coming out tomorrow hopefully. That’ll be interesting I will have to go over all the signs again, that’s the problem when they come out in areas, I will have to setup extra lessons or such to catch people up somehow ARGH. I miss some people… My dog…. Well dogs…..Famjam, my rugby family <3, THE OFFICEß I know its not a person, but I can’t see it here, cause like, no bloody satellite. Yes, my life revolves around TV. Don’t hate. Man, ate so much pasta today, I have plenty left to make, maybe 2-3 more meals yum. Also, today I realized that I should buy myself a oven mitt, with my own money to invest in the safety of my own hand. Haha. Yea, I am a dork.
Anyways, sleep now, TTYL.

Day 3

Today was a long day; I guess I should get used to it and just accept it. I spent from 9AM to about 7:30 with Losty today. He’s a hard nut to crack, he has these signs implanted just doesn’t now how to use them, or do I think he even wants to use them. Its okay I guess he is my starfish. It’s gradually getting colder, I went down to the bay today (Hudson Bay) and Great Whale River, it’s so beautiful. The pictures I took probably don’t even do justice; it’s so serene up by the Inukshuk. I am starting to miss people, I guess less than 4 weeks to go. Can’t wait to see you when I get back. I had pork chops and fries for dinner today, no salt on anything because I don’t really want to go and buy salt when I am only here for a few weeks. There’s not much to update really, I walked around town with Losty today reminded him to stay away from the bar, and I guess I will be off to watch him play a bit of hockey TTFN.

Day 2

So, went to bed at about 7PM last night, woke up at 8, whoo.
Ha-ha, that’s what happens when you’re uber tired and there isn’t much to do, that might be because I really know not very many people here, well people my age. I met with a group of people today to discuss what the objective of me being here is, I have to admit I am a little timid at first it seems when in professional circumstances, the people are very nice here though. I also moved into a different house today, I am stuck with no phone, no satellite and no internet sadly. I have antenna cable though, so I guess I will be watching a lot of CBC until I meet some people my age. Shopping is also very expensive, $38 got me: Microwaveable Chef Boyardee - $6, Wonder Bread - $3.50, Lays Chips - $5.20, Mild Cheddar Cheese (large) - $10, French Fries - $6, 2 fresh pork chops - $6.40.
Yea, expensive, I get $50 a day for food no matter what (assuming a meal is not provided for me by anyone here). Also, the police drove me around today and showed me to the great whale river, Hudson Bay, the bars (which I am not allowed to go in to keep my rep), the cell tower that is being built; guess what it gets built in a month from now, yay cell service after I leave. Blah. Not much excitement here, really, some younger people said hi to me on my way from the grocery store. That was nice I guess. *sigh*

<3 L

Day 1

So lets start off with no sleep in Montreal, then lets head to being charged $120 for excess luggage uh hi? Way to be lame and charge me because I had no idea. Ugh kay, aside from those two things, almost didn’t make it to Great Whale today because of the weather, tis snowy here. I like it, and all the dogs are always running around. Just watching the landscape from the plane was so amazing. I supposedly have to write a report at the end of it all, uh someone remind me how to do this? Hah. Anyways, everything costs 2x as much, esp the meat, and game is more expensive, surprise eh. But I am here safe and sound. Tired, but safe. Here are some lovely pictures of today…. Not really lovely but you get the point. I’ll be right across from the place where I will be working woot. Anyways pictures will have to come later, internet is too slow.

3 more days

And I will be headed on my way up to Whapmagoostui.
I have some general ideas of what I am going to do day by day, but not fully.
Some will just be by my seat of my pants, depending on what group I am teaching.

Anyways, hopefully they send me my ticket for Sunday soon.
